WTC 2021 Final: 'Absolute disgrace,' Roger Binny on Indian pacers' performance against NZ

Team India lost the WTC 2021 final against New Zealand by 8 wickets.

At first, they restricted India to 217 and 170 in both innings and chased down the target of 139 runs to claim the title.

1983 World Cup-winning all-rounder Roger Binny was not happy with the Indian bowling attack that allowed New Zealand a 32-run lead in the first innings and criticized the bowling unit for the same very heavily.

Watching the Indians bowl on Sunday (the third day of the Test), it was not the way to bowl in a Test in England. It was an absolute disgrace. What did the opposition do to you? What sort of performance was this? They are playing a Test match,Binny was quoted as saying by News18.

When you bowl, you bowl in the batsman’s half. You don’t bowl in your half. They have to play the shots. The shorter you bowl, the more the ball seams. You have to attack to take wickets, not bowl defensively,” he added.

WTC 2021 Final: You can’t score 200-250 and expect bowlers to defend it, opines Deep Dasgupta

The Kiwi bowlers bowled hard lengths and did not give Indian batters any bad balls to let go of the pressure being created and eventually picked 20-wickets in the match.

Thus, according to the 65-year-old, Indian pacers should’ve watched the way New Zealand bowlers bowled and learnt from that.

The Indian bowlers were bowling to contain them. I was very surprised by the way they bowled in a Test in England. The opposition knocks you over with seaming balls. All you have to do is watch them bowl and bowl the same way,” the right-arm quick said.

You are sitting and watching the NZ bowlers bowling to your batsmen. That is how you learn. Weren’t the Indians watching them how they did it?” he signed off.
