Veteran New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor has ruled out any retirement plans from international cricket at the moment after helping his team to win the inauguration edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against India at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton on June 23, 2021.

After hitting the winning runs in the WTC 2021 Final against India to help New Zealand win the ICC Test Championship Mace on Wednesday (June 23), Taylor said he still has got few games left in him and can contribute to the team’s cause.

Chasing a 139-run target in the WTC final in Southampton, the 38-year-old right-handed batsman scored unbeaten 47 runs along with a third-wicket partnership of 96 runs with skipper Kane Williamson (52* runs) to beat India by 8 wickets on Wednesday to be crowned as WTC winners.

Taylor told Newstalk ZB: “I’m just looking forward to going home and seeing the family. Obviously, I’m coming towards the end of my career but you don’t want to make decisions based on emotion and things like that. Hopefully, I’ve still got a few games left in me for New Zealand.”

The veteran cricketer has earlier hinted at playing until the 2023 ODI World Cup, hoping to complete the unfinished business from the World Cup 2015 and 2019 by winning the title in 2023.

At the moment, New Zealand is the number one ranked Test and ODI team in the world and Taylor is proud of the current team and hopes to win more accolades with them in the future.

He signed off by saying, “I wouldn't get too carried away. We've had some fantastic teams (like) the team of the 1980s. But this current group is proud of what they've achieved and hopefully can achieve some special things in the future as well.”
