Australian spin legend Shane Warne has on Thursday (June 24) congratulated New Zealand on winning the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against India at the Ageas Bowl Southampton on Wednesday (June 23).
He also hailed the pitch curator at Hampshire, his county team during his playing days, for preparing a terrific wicket at the Ageas Bowl for the WTC 2021 Final between New Zealand and Team India while congratulating Kane Williamson and his team for their fabulous show and winning the ICC Test Championship Mace in England.
New Zealand bowlers put up a brilliant performance on the reserve day of the WTC Final in Southampton to skittle out India for 170 before Williamson and Ross Taylor took the Kiwis over the line while chasing the target of 139 to script a memorable eight-wicket win on Wednesday.
After New Zealand crowned World Test Championship winners, Warne took to Twitter to congratulate Williamson and his team on their maiden World title on Thursday as well as hailed the pitch curator.
He tweeted: “Congrats to Kane Williamson and the entire Nz team. Well done on winning the trophy & well done to everyone at the #hampshirebowl for producing a terrific pitch too @ICC.”
