Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah in a chat with ICC before the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021 final spoke on his evolution as a cricketer.

Jasprit Bumrah over the years has evolved into one of the finest fast bowlers India has produced in recent times. The pacer has cemented his place in the national setup and is skipper Virat Kohli’s go-to bowler in all formats of the game.

Ever since making his debut in 2016, the Indian pace sensation has become a match-winner for captain Virat Kohli and has evolved into one of the bowlers currently on the scene who can become one of the greatest of all-time barring fitness issues.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah said that as a youngster he used to get angry all the time was unhelpful but over the years he has realized what is good for him. He admitted that even though he smiles a lot now, the fire inside him still burns red hot all the time.

“When I started playing cricket as a youngster, I used to get angry left, right, and center. I used to do all the gimmicks back then, and it never helped my cricket.

“Now, over the years, when I have played a good amount of international cricket, I have realized what works for me. I am smiling, but the fire inside is burning all the time,” Jasprit Bumrah was quoted as saying by the ICC.

Bumrah admitted that his controlled aggression has helped him succeed in international cricket

“I don’t try to show (aggression), and it has helped me to succeed, and with that controlled aggression, I take my game forward. A lot of the game was self-taught,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah further said that he had never idolized any specific fast bowler while growing up. He added that he loves playing in English conditions and bowling with a Dukes ball.

“I always picked up inspiration from whatever I saw and wherever I go. I never had a particular favorite but have followed a lot of great fast bowlers while growing up. Nowadays, when I meet them, I ask a lot of advice from them. I love the English weather. I like bowling here, and I really like the duke ball,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah will hold the key for Virat Kohli-led side during Day 5 of the WTC final at Southampton. At the stumps on Day 3, New Zealand was 101 for 2 with Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor at the crease.
