WTC 2021 Final: India 'more than welcome' to bring in an extra seamer in their playing XI, says Dale Steyn

The toss was delayed on Day 1 of the iconic Test match at Southampton due to rain.

Team India training ahead of the WTC final | GettyIndia announced their playing XIs for the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand, but since Day 1 of this iconic Test match was washed out, the start of the play along with toss was delayed.

While a lot of cricket experts were happy with the XI Team India went with, former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn feels otherwise. Since the toss was delayed on the first day, Steyn reckons it is completely up to India if they want to change their combination.

I like what they’ve done. They’ve come up and told the world this is the team that we are going to go with.

The nice thing is they can only hand over the team sheet at the toss so if they want to change their team – they want to bring in an extra seamer – they are more than welcome of doing that. They might probably even do it but I do like what they have done,Steyn said on ESPNCricinfo.

It gives the players an opportunity to prepare and let the opposition know that this team is ready. They’ve trained… they have worked hard as to how they are going to go about in this Test match and they are putting it out there. I don’t mind it too much. But if they wanted to change the team because the toss hasn’t happened yet. They could if they wanted to,” he added.

Team India went with Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, and Mohammad Shami as their three pacers with two spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari couldn’t make it to the XI as they went with Cheteshwar Pujara, Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane in the middle order.
