After Virat Kohli took over the reins from former skipper MS Dhoni, there have been a lot of positives for Team India like winning their first-ever Test series in Australia and the team has been dominating in the longest format for a while now.
But the only thing missing for all the Indian cricket team fans is any major ICC tournament trophy. Under skipper Kohli, Team India lost the ICC Champions Trophy finals to Pakistan in 2017 and lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2019.
Thus, according to former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, Virat Kohli will be keen on winning the World Test Championship (WTC) title as this will not only be huge for him but will also add a new dimension to the way India play Test cricket.
“It will be huge for Virat. He has led from the front, which is one of the important things for a good captain.”
“He is a batsman who is at the top of the game along with Kane, his opposite number, and one or two other guys who are around the cricketing circle and it's a small group. Virat has got a lot to play for,” Bishop said in a virtual press conference organized by Star Sports.
“I think Virat would badly want it because of all the good work that he has done. The belief in his fast bowlers, changing the dynamics and the positivity, taking it to another level. To have that trophy in that cabinet for himself, for his team and his country, you can't substitute that,” he added.
Thus, it will be exciting to see how Virat Kohli and Co. perform in this upcoming WTC final against New Zealand at Southampton scheduled from June 18.
