Former cricketers Ajit Agarkar and Scott Styris have on Tuesday (June 8) picked New Zealand as favorites to be crowned the winner in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) final against India to be played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from June 18-22.

Styris, former New Zealand cricketer-turned-commentator, has also predicted a 6-wicket for Kane Williamson and his team in the WTC 2021 Final against India to win the World Test Championship mace in Southampton, England.

He also feels Devon Conway will be the highest run-scorer and Trent Boult will end with the highest wickets in the upcoming WTC Final between New Zealand and India.

Speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Styris stated: “I think New Zealand will win and they will win by 6 wickets. I think Devon Conway is going to be the highest run-scorer and Trent Boult will get the most wickets.”

However, Agarkar said it is difficult to pick the winner between the top two Test teams of the world, but said New Zealand will start as favorites against India in the WTC Final in Southampton.

The former Indian cricketer said on the show, “It's a difficult one to pick -- who is going to win it. I think New Zealand might just start favorites in this one.”

However, Agarkar has picked Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami as the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively in the much-anticipated WTC 2021 Final in Southampton.

The commentator further explained, “For the leading run-getter, I will go with Virat Kohli. I think he showed us what he could do in England -- the second time he toured -- even under difficult conditions and he'd want to be the man to stand up for India.”

He concluded, “I think Mohammad Shami will be the highest wicket-taker. I think Bumrah's rise has been rapid, but to me, Mohammad Shami has been India's number one bowler, certainly in Test cricket and the conditions don't matter to him.”
