AUS v IND 2020-21: “We were outplayed, Well done Team India” David Warner reflects on Australia’s Test series loss

Warner praised Indian team's spirit and also gave strength to Australian team.

Warner praised Australia's Man of the Series Pat Cummins | GettyAustralia opener David Warner missed the first two Tests of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series but returned for the last two matches. Warner had sustained a groin injury during the limited-overs series.

He was brought back into the Australia XI despite not being 100% fit after India had bounced back from the Adelaide Test debacle to win the Melbourne Test by 8 wickets under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy. However, Warner’s return didn’t make much difference as he made scores of 5, 13, 1, and 48.

India managed to draw the Sydney Test with Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin, and Hanuma Vihari batting the better portion of day 4 and five to survive the Australian onslaught.

However, the biggest hit to Australia’s pride and ego came at their fortress Gabba, in Brisbane, where they had not lost a Test since 1988. However, Rahane’s Indian team was full of youth and didn’t come with any baggage, and Pujara and Pant again with help from Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, Shubman Gill, and Mohammed Siraj, scripted perhaps the greatest Test win and Test series win for India.

David Warner shared a post on social media reflecting on Australia’s second consecutive Test series loss to India at home and third consecutive overall.

The first pic started like this and the second pic ended like this!! Not the result we would have liked but credit where credit is due. Well done team India on the series win. Some great stories will and have come out of this for India. For us, we fought hard and did our very best, but we were outplayed. Well done to @patcummins30 for a man of the series.

This is why we love the game of test cricket, it’s very very tough and and takes a lot of mental strength. Onto South Africa now and need to win to stay in the test championship race,” the caption read.
