India's speedster Jasprit Bumrah has commented in favor of the idea of having neutral umpires in bilateral series. International Cricket Council (ICC) has made the change to have home umpires in all the matches to reduce travel because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first day of the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia saw a controversial decision. The third-umpire gave a decision in favor of the home side after the run-out appeal of Australia captain Tim Paine in the 55th over of their innings.

Cameron Green and Paine had a mix-up which got the latter in trouble. Replay showed the bat was on the line, but the third-umpire did not feel he had enough evidence to give it out.

Bumrah said it's unfortunate that the umpires can't travel like players which takes out the possibility of having neutral umpires.

"These are the things that we can't control. I understand the situations are difficult and all of these are not in our hands. So I try not to focus on those things which we can't control," said Bumrah in a virtual post-match press conference after the opening day's action.

"It's unfortunate that umpires are not able to travel but then it's something that I don't have the power of changing it. We try to focus on things that we can change and that's the only thing our team is focusing on," he added after a terrific bowling performance on the first day.

Former Australia spinner Shane Warne was also not satisfied with the decision. He felt Paine was lucky to get away with the close call.
