James Anderson lauded his longstanding new-ball partner Stuart Broad after his excellent comeback in the side following the snub ahead of the first Test against the West Indies. 

Broad put the disappointment of being left out in Southampton behind him and let the ball do the talking like only few can, taking 16 wickets at an average of just 10.94 in the last two Tests.

In the process, during the third Test in Manchester, the pacer also became only the seventh bowler in the history of the game to take 500 Test scalps. 

"The way he has bowled the past two games has been phenomenal, and an absolute credit to himself and the work he's put in over the past few years," Anderson told Sky Sports after England's 2-1 series win. 

"I don't think either of us are that fussed by the wickets tally. What we enjoy doing is winning games and celebrating those moments together. We love bowling together in Tests, we have a really good understanding and bowl well when the other guy is at the other end."

The form he has shown since the start of 2019, Anderson feels Broad, three younger than him at 34, has a very good opportunity to go past him and retire as England's highest Test wicket-taker. 

"There's a very good chance he will get more wickets than me if he carries on like this," said the 37-year-old, who himself is nearing the 600th mark. 

"I heard him say the other day why can't he carry on until he's my age, and that's absolutely true. He's in great shape. He can go on and get as many wickets as he wants."

"He's now getting the ball to shape away again, and we've seen how lethal he is with that wobble seam that nips back. Obviously, he was disappointed at Southampton. It felt like he's had a real point to prove, and he has proved that," Anderson concluded.
