England beat South Africa by an innings and 53 runs in the second Test match at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth today and took a 2-1 lead in the series.
On the first day, England won the toss and opted to bat first. Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley gave a steady start on a slow track but both openers couldn't convert their starts. Joe Root and Joe Denly also got out cheaply but Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope took the charge and their 203 runs partnership for the fifth wicket put South Africa on backfoot. Both Stokes and Pope brought up their hundreds and eventually, England declared on 499/9.
In reply, South Africa batsmen had no clue against Dominic Bess and top order collapsed and the team bowled out for just 209 runs. England enforced the follow on due to bad weather and in the second innings it was Joe Root's turn who took four wickets and put South Africa in big trouble. Keshav Maharaj and Dane Paterson showed some fight but that wasn't enough and the team was bowled out for 237 runs and lost the Test by an innings and 53 runs.
