New Zealand pacer Tim Southee’s antics during the opening day of the first Test against Australia at Perth surprised one and all, including the opposition opener David Warner.

During the seventh over of Australian innings, Warner’s opening partner Joe Burns played a forward defensive shot off Southee’s bowling. The Kiwi bowler, on the other hand, collected the ball and threw it back targetting the stumps.

Unfortunately, the throw struck Burns on the hand but Southee was unapologetic about the incident.

Surprised by Southee’s hostility, Warner exchanged a few words with the veteran Black Caps paceman when he was walking back to his run-up.

Here’s how the conversation went:

Southee: “He was out (of his crease).”

Warner: “It hit his hand.”

Southee: “Well he’s in front of the wicket.”

Warner: “Mate, c’mon. You’re supposed to be Mr Nice Guy.”

Coming to the match, Burns was dismissed by Colin de Grandhomme for 9 while Warner missed his half-century as Neil Wagner removed the southpaw for 43.

The hosts were 160/2 at Tea break on Day 1 with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne unbeaten at the crease.
