The Kiwis are all set to play Australia in the first Test at Perth that starts from December 12 (Thursday). However, veteran batsman Ross Taylor gave them an injury scare during a practice session.
New Zealand recently finished a high-intensity Test series against England. They were without their premier swing bowler Trent Boult, who was out with a side strain for the third Test. While the team management had an eye on the recovery of Boult during the last full-fledged practice session before the Perth Test, it was Taylor who grabbed the attention.

Ross Taylor was receiving some throw downs from the team’s strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson. One of the balls bounced well on the hard track and hit the batsman on his thumb before going on to hit the biceps.
The 35-year-old immediately threw his bat away and took off his glove to check the thumb. The team physiotherapist checked the injury and took him out of the session. While going back, Taylor joked with one of the players saying, “See you in Melbourne (venue for the second Test)”.

However, an NZ team spokesman later confirmed that Taylor would not be undergoing any major treatment and also would not be sent for x-rays, which seem to mean that he will fit by Thursday.
The veteran top-order batsman is very crucial for the visitors as he scored a mammoth 290 the last time these two sides played a Test in Perth. Taylor’s 290 is also the highest score by a visiting batsman in Australia.
