Delhi Capitals roped in Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland for a whopping sum of INR 2 crore at the WPL 2024 auction. She entered the auction with a base price of INR 40 lakh.
Sutherland featured in the inaugural WPL season for Gujarat Giants. She, however, played only four matches, scoring 48 runs and claiming three wickets. She was released in the off-season.
In recent times, Annabel Sutherland has regained her form. She finished as highest-scorer for the Melbourne Stars in the 2024 Women's Big Bash, amassing 288 runs in 14 innings. She also picked up 23 wickets in the season, including an outing of 4/22.
As many as 165 players are going under the hammer at the WPL 2024 auction as five teams - Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz - look to fine-tune their squad before the second edition.
In the first set, capped batters were up for grabs and Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield grabbed the headlines with her hefty price tag. Litchfield, whose base price was INR 30 lakh, was signed by Gujarat Giants for INR 1 crore.
