Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women's cricket team for winning the gold medal at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China, on Monday, September 25.

Notably, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team defeated Sri Lanka Women by 19 runs in the final to script history, as they won India's first-ever Asian Games gold medal in women's cricket.

It was a huge moment for the Indian women’s cricket team after they had to make do with the silver medal in last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the girls ended up with the silver medal after losing to Australia in the final.

Later, young Indian pacer Titas Sadhu (3/6 in 4 overs), leg-spinner Devika Vaidya (4-0-15-1), left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad (3-0-20-2), and off-spinner Deepti Sharma (4-0-25-1) restricted Sri Lanka to 97 for eight in 20 overs to win the final by 19 runs.

Notably, Indian women is one of the top teams in the world, and their victory at the Asian Games is a testament to their skill and determination. The Indian team's victory at the Asian Games will certainly inspire more girls to take up cricket in the country.
