WATCH: Shafali Verma breaks down in tears after leading India to inaugural ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup title

India U-19 side registered a comprehensive 7-wicket victory over England in the final.

Shafali Verma | ScreengrabIndia U-19 team, led by Shafali Verma, on Sunday (January 29) created history as they clinched the inaugural ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup title by defeating England in the final.

After the triumph, emotions were running high in the Indian camp and skipper Shafali couldn’t hold back her tears.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, tears rolled down her cheeks and she wiped them off while having a smile on her face.

“The way all the girls are performing and backing each other, so happy. Incredible feeling. Thanks to the staff, the way they have been backing us every day and telling us that we are here for the cup and because of them we are here. All thanks to them. The players have been backing me a lot. Thanks to BCCI for giving me this beautiful team and really happy for winning the cup,” an emotional Shafali Verma said at the presentation.

Coming to the final match, India U-19 side registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over England in Potchefstroom to lift the coveted trophy.

Opting to bowl first, India bowled out England for a paltry 68 in 17.1 overs. Titas Sadhu was the stand-out Indian bowler as she returned with remarkable figures of 4-0-6-2. Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra also claimed two wickets each

Chasing the target, India got over the line with six overs to spare. Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha scored 24 runs apiece for India.
