Earlier this week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the five successful bidders for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).

One of the successful bidders in the list was JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd, which secured the ownership rights of the Delhi-based franchise for INR 810 Crore.

Before the player auction, Delhi and other teams are busy in finalizing their coaches and other support staff members.

According to a report published in Sportstar, WV Raman and Jhulan Goswami have been offered head coach and bowling coach positions, respectively by the Delhi Capitals.

“We have offered the bowling coach role to Jhulan and we are sure that she will accept the offer,” Sourav Ganguly, the director of cricket at Delhi Capitals, said in an exclusive chat with Sportstar.

Jhulan Goswami brought the curtains down on her glorious cricketing career in September last year. She is currently associated with the Bengal team as a mentor.

On the other hand, Raman had served the Indian women’s team as head coach between December 2018 and March 2021.

DC management reckons that the presence of Goswami and Raman will help the team in terms of experience.

“WV did a great job with the Indian team and that’s why we have offered him the head coach role job,” Ganguly said.

Besides Delhi, franchises based in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow will take part in the inaugural WPL.

Adani Sportsline Pvt. Ltd and Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd bought the teams from Ahmedabad and Mumbai while the Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd and Capri Global Holdings Pvt. Ltd secured the ownership rights of Bengaluru and Lucknow, respectively.

The player auction is likely to be held in the second week of February.
