The Indian women’s cricket team clinched their record 7th Women’s Asia Cup title on Saturday (October 15), and the internet was flooded with congratulatory posts for the team, and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the girls' efforts on social media.
On Saturday, India Women thrashed Sri Lanka Women by 8 wickets in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 final in Sylhet to clinch their 7th Asian title. Following the remarkable victory, the Honorable Prime Minister took to Twitter to congratulate the team on their Women’s Asia Cup triumph over Sri Lanka.
Modi congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on their Asia Cup triumph and said that the girls showed outstanding skill and teamwork throughout the tournament. PM Modi also wished India Women the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Sharing ICC’s tweet, Modi tweeted: “Our women cricket team makes us proud with their grit and dexterity! Congratulations to the team for winning the Women's Asia Cup. They have shown outstanding skill and teamwork. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours.”
Notably, after winning the toss, Sri Lanka Women decided to bat first and India Women reduced them to 65/9 in their 20 overs, thanks to Renuka Singh (3/5), Deepti Sharma (2/13) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s (2/16) stunning performances with the ball in the final on Saturday.
In reply, India chased down the paltry total inside 9 overs at the expense of two wickets, thanks to a brilliant fifty from Smriti Mandhana (51*) against Sri Lanka to clinch their 7th Women’s Asia Cup title.
