September 24 has been a special day in Indian cricket before as the Men's team famously won the inaugural T20 World Cup, on this day, in 2007. The Women's team added another piece to the history on Saturday as they whitewashed England 3-0 in the ODI series with a 16-run win at Lord's.

Harmanpreet Kaur's team had already secured the series by winning the first two matches, but the final game was equally important for the side as it was the farewell of veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami.

India batted first after losing the toss and could only post 169 after half-centuries by Smriti Mandhana (50) and Deepti Sharma (68*) with Kate Cross picking up 4/26.

But an inspired spell of bowling by Renuka Thakur (4/29) and Jhulan Goswami (2/30) saw England slump to 118/9 chasing the 170-run target. Charlie Dean (47) and Freya Davies (10*) added a partnership of 35 runs for the last wicket to give some stress to the visitors before Dean was run out by Deepti after she backed up too far outside her crease in the 44th over, handing India a 16-run victory.

The form of dismissal was previously a cause of debate but now MCC has legitimised it as a law and there should be no argument about 'Spirit of Cricket' around it but that's not always the case.

R Ashwin, a solid backer of the form of dismissal, who famously ran out Jos Buttler similarly in IPL 2019 was trending on Twitter soon as fans mentioned him after the game for obvious reasons. The off-spinner cheekily reacted to Deepti's run out without expressing his opinion.

“Why the hell are you trending Ashwin? Tonight is about another bowling hero @Deepti_Sharma06” he wrote on Twitter.
