Star Sports India won the TV rights for the next five years of IPL programming, while VIacom18, owned by Mukesh Ambani, won the digital rights of the Indian Premier League for 2023-2027 editions.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that it was a red-letter day in the history of Indian cricket and promised that the revenue will be used in making sure that the facilities across the table are improved, the domestic cricketers are paid their dues and all the stakeholders are satisfied.

Jay Shah also talked about the plans for the Women's IPL which are currently in making and called it something which is close to his heart.

“We will have two national teams ready at the same time,” - Jay Shah

Speaking to the news agency PTI, Shah said: "This is a project which is very close to my heart. We will start with either five or six teams in the first edition. I am thrilled at the kind of response we have gotten from stakeholders. Multiple existing IPL teams have enquired and expressed serious interest in owning WIPL franchises.

Not to forget interest from outside. We are in discussions with other Boards about the possible window when all top cricketers will be available. I can promise that the valuation of the league, franchises, and media rights will stun one and all," he added.

BCCI has been holding a three-team tournament Women's T20 Challenge since 2019 and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side Supernovas won their third title this year.
