CWC 2022: WATCH – West Indies’ Shamilia Connell collapses on the ground, receives medical attention

A mini ambulance reportedly took Shamilia Connell to a hospital for further treatment.

Shamilia Connell collapsed during the match | GettyWest Indies cricketer Shamilia Connell on Friday (March 18) collapsed on the ground midway through the match against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in Mount Maunganui.

Connell was surrounded by her teammates after she fell and also received medical attention on the field.

However, everyone at the venue heaved a sigh of relief as Connell gradually got up on her feet to get into the mini ambulance, which reportedly took her to a hospital for further treatment.

After the match, West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor informed that Shamilia Connell is stable.

“Stable and the medical personnel is taking care of her (Connell). It was sad to see her go down but we look at the bright side, it was probably for us to regroup and we did that and changed the momentum," Taylor said at the post-match presentation after West Indies’ thrilling four-run win over Bangladesh.

Hayley Matthews, who earned the Player-of-the-Match award for her outstanding bowling figures of 4/15, wasn’t aware of what exactly happened to Connell.

“Obviously a bit worrying to see her (Connell) go down like that. She is a fighter, am not sure what’s wrong with her but she will be alright," Matthews said.

Before the incident, Shamilia Connell delivered three overs for the West Indies and also scored an unbeaten two.
