Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur | GettyIndia thrashed West Indies by 155 runs in their ICC Women's ODI World Cup match at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Saturday (March 12).

Coming into the game following a 62-run defeat at the hands of hosts New Zealand, the Women in Blue produced a flawless performance and outplayed West Indies in all departments.

Opting to bat first, India piled up a mammoth 317/8 in 50 overs on the back of Smriti Mandhana (123 off 119 balls) and Harmanpreet Kaur’s (109 off 107 balls) centuries.

Later, India’s bowlers produced brilliance and bundled out the West Indies for 162 in 40.3 overs. Sneh Rana starred with the ball, returning with impressive figures of 3-22 in her 9.3 overs.

Speaking after the resounding victory, Mandhana praised Harmanpreet Kaur, saying the Indian vice-captain is at her best when she has her back to the wall.

"From the outset, I feel when her back is towards the wall, that's when she comes the best out and that's something which I've seen," Smriti, who shared her 'Player-of-the-Match' award with Harmanpreet, said in the post-match media interaction.

"Her work ethic is really up there in the whole team. She keeps going even if she does not get the results. World Cups are the place where she comes good."

The duo was involved in a 184-run partnership for the fourth wicket – India's highest partnership for any wicket at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

"She is a crucial part of our middle order. Happy she's come back well. She has been batting well in the practice. We were always confident that she would score runs. Happy that she scored back-to-back fifties. It will give her good confidence going forward."

Reflecting on their partnership, Mandhana said: "The situation was quite tricky when she came into bat. I didn't want to lose her or lose her focus. But once she was on 30-40s we all started having a lot of fun. We started talking a lot after that. she was smiling a lot more today."

India will face England in their next match at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Wednesday (March 16).
