The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Thursday (February 3) that the fourth edition of the Women's T20 Challenge will be held this year.

The BCCI chief stated that the Women's T20 Challenge will happen during the playoffs of the IPL 2022. However, he said that the board is still mulling on a full-fledged women's IPL.

Over recent years, Indian women cricketers and many others have been demanding a full Women’s IPL, after the success of the Women's BBL and the Women's Hundred recently.

However, the BCCI President said that they are working on the women’s IPL, but said the India cricket board can’t move forward with any plan until it is clear there are enough women cricketers in India to participate in the franchise-based T20 tournament.

Adding fuel to the rising demand for the Women’s IPL, former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the BCCI and Ganguly to prioritize an IPL for the women cricketers.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator feels the time has come for the BCCI to work on establishing a full-fledged franchise-based tournament for women's cricket – Women’s IPL.

He wrote on Twitter on Thursday: “A Women's #IPL should be top priority now @SGanguly9 !! Let’s get it sorted...”
