ICC reveals schedule for 2022 Women's World Cup; India faces Pakistan in their opening match

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Wednesday (December 15), announced the schedule for the upcoming 2022 Women’s World Cup to be held in New Zealand from March 4-April 3, 2022.

A total of 31 matches will be played across 31 days in 6 cities – Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington in the upcoming Women’s World Cup, with the eight teams clashing for the World Cup title in April next year.

India will open its 2022 Women's World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6, 2022, at Bay Oval, Tauranga, while hosts New Zealand will take on the West Indies in the tournament opener on March 4, 2022, in Tauranga.

According to the ICC, Australia, England, South Africa, and India qualified for the Women's World Cup 2022 on the basis of their position in the ICC Women’s Championship 2017–20, while New Zealand automatically qualified as hosts.

Notably, the Women’s World Cup 2022 will be played in the league format, as all eight nations will face each other once, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals.

The first semi-final will take place on March 30 at The Basin Reserve in Wellington, with the second semi-final taking place on March 31 at The Hagley Oval.

The World Cup 2022 final will be played on April 3 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, with both the semi-finals and the finals having a reserve day in place.
