India women's ODI skipper Mithali Raj on Tuesday (September 21) added another feather to his cap as she went past 20,000 runs in her illustrious cricketing career.
Mithali accomplished the milestone in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia at the Harrup Park in Mackay.
She is already the leading scorer in women's international cricket across three formats of the game, having achieved the feat during the tour of England earlier this year.
In the ODI series opener against Australia, Mithali played a knock of 63 runs off 107 balls to help the visitors post 225/8 in their stipulated 50 overs. Apart from her, Yastika Bhatia (35 off 51 balls) and Richa Ghosh (32* off 29 balls) also chipped in with decent contributions with the bat.
For the Southern Stars, Darcie Brown returned with the figures of 4 for 33 in her 9 overs while Sophie Molineux (2-39) and Hannah Darlington (2-29) chipped in with two scalps each.
In reply, the hosts overhauled the target with 9 wickets in hand and 54 balls to spare. The duo of Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy added 126 runs for the opening wicket.
While Poonam Yadav dismissed Healy for run-a-ball 77, Haynes (93* off 100 balls) held the end one end firmly, stitching an unbeaten 101-run partnership for the second wicket with skipper Meg Lanning (53* off 69 balls) to take Australia over the line.
With this victory, Australia women’s team took a 1-0 lead in the 50-over series. The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Friday (September 24).
