AUSW v INDW 2021: PICS- India women players begin practice for multi-format series vs Australia

The multi-format series includes three-ODIs, a one-off D/N Test and three-T20Is.

Indian women's team practicing | Twitter Indian women’s team has started training for the multi-format series against Australia which includes three-ODIs, one-off day-night Test, and three-T20Is in Brisbane.

The team left for Australia on August 28 and everyone in the team including support staff had to undergo a strict 14-day quarantine. The first ODI will be played on September 21.

Team India opener Smriti Mandhana said that they love playing against Australia because of the competitive nature of their rivals.

The official Twitter handle of BCCI women shared stills from the practice session and captioned it as “Prep On ahead of #AUSvIND series. #TeamIndia.”

“We all love playing against Australia because they are one of the best teams in the world and are quite competitive. When it comes to Australia, you are a bit more pumped because the level pf competitiveness of the Australian team just rubs off on us and we also start being extra competitive,” Mandhana told Scoop Podcast as reported by Cricket.com.au.

She said that the players enjoy batting on Australian pitches and added that they do not mind the quarantine as long as they get to play the sport.

“Australian wickets have true bounce and I think everyone loves batting in Australia. No one will tell you they don’t like batting in Australia. We are just really happy to play cricket, whatever the quarantine maybe,” she added.

The two teams last faced off in the T20 World Cup 2020 final at the MCG in March last year when Australia emerged victoriously.

“The team has grown massively. COVID was a long break after the T20 World Cup and a lot of girls had a chance to go back and understand more about their games, where they lack as an individual and come back stronger,” said Mandhana.

"The whole team has worked on their fitness and skills… we are still getting into the rhythm of playing matches continuously but the last five, six months we have been playing cricket and now we are getting back into the match mindset,” she added.
