BCCI announces India women’s squads for upcoming Australia tour

Indian women’s team will play three ODIs, one Test and three T20Is during the tour of Australia.

Mithali Raj will captain the Test and ODI sides | GettyBCCI on Tuesday (August 24) announced India women’s squad for the upcoming Australia tour, comprising three ODIs, one Test and three T20Is.

Mithali Raj will lead the side in the solitary Test match and the 50-over series while Harmanpreet Kaur will play the role of her deputy.

The Test and ODI squad also features Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Punam Raut, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma. Sneh Rana, who became a household name after the recently held England tour, also made the cut.

Taniya Bhatia has been named the wicket-keeper while the veteran Jhulan Goswami will spearhead the bowling attack.

Harmanpreet will captain the T20I side on the tour Down Under whereas Mandhana has been named the vice-captain.

Harleen Deol, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Renuka Singh Thakur are not part of the Test and ODI squad but they retained their place in the T20I squad, which features Richa Ghosh as wicket-keeper batter.

The tour will begin with the ODI series on September 19. The one-off Test will be played in Perth from September 30 to October 3 while the T20I series will be played from October 7-11 in Sydney.

India Women’s T20I squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Yastika Bhatia, Shikha Pandey, Meghna Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Poonam Yadav, Richa Ghosh (wicket-keeper), Harleen Deol, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Renuka Singh Thakur.
