ENGW v INDW 2021: Harmanpreet Kaur needs to perform consistently, opines Anjum Chopra

Harmanpreet Kaur has said that injuries and COVID-19 has impacted her form | TwitterFormer India women’s cricketer Anjum Chopra has opined that India T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur needs to come up with consistent performances, after her poor form with the bat continued in the England tour.

On the ongoing England tour, Harmanpreet scored 4 and 8 in the drawn one-off Test, and then made 1, 19, and 16 in the three-ODI series which India lost 2-1 and now managed just 1 run in the first T20I, which England won.

Now only this, but in the 30 ODIs and 24 innings Harmanpreet has played since that 2017 World Cup century, she has managed only three half-centuries.

ENGW v INDW 2021: Groin injury, COVID-19 hampered preparations- Harmanpreet Kaur on poor form

Harmanpreet's form in T20 cricket too has not been that good. She scored a century in November 2018 in a T20 World Cup match against New Zealand women's team but since then, the 25 innings in 26 matches have been barren with not a single fifty.

"Harmanpreet Kaur's knock of 171 not out in the 2017 ICC World Cup semi-final will be remembered for ages. But the team needs consistent performances from its members. If we would have got some outing, it would have been better, because switching on and off is very important.

On a long tour, that is what we are missing a lot. [But] you have to accept what you have in front of you,” former India batter and skipper Anjum Chopra wrote in a column for IANS, on Saturday.

Harmanpreet Kaur has blamed her injuries and COVID-19 for her poor form ahead of the first match as she hadn't been able to get sufficient match practice, on Saturday she hinted that the bio-bubble is taking a bit of a toll on not just her but the entire team.
