Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana nominated for ICC women's Player of the Month award

No Indian male cricketer nominated for the award.

India women cricketers Shafali Verma and Sneh Rana were nominated for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Player-of-the-Month award for June 2021. The ICC has confirmed the nomination of Shafali and Sneh for the honor on Wednesday (July 7)

Rana and Shafali will fight for the honor with England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone with the winner to be announced on Monday, 12 July chosen by an independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world based on their performances in the month of June 2021.

In the men’s category, none of the Indian cricket team members made the cut while New Zealand's Devon Conway and Kyle Jamieson along with South Africa’s Quinton de Kock were picked.

The ICC said in a statement on Wednesday, “The nominees for the monthly men's awards this time are Devon Conway, Quinton de Kock, and Kyle Jamieson while Sophie Ecclestone, Sneh Rana and Shafali Verma figure in the women's shortlist.”

Notably, the young batting sensation Shafali made an impressive Test debut in the recent one-off Test against England, as the 17-year-old has not only won the Player of the Match award in Bristol for 96 and 63, but also became the first Indian woman and fourth overall to score half-centuries in both innings of a debut Test.

She also managed 59 runs in two ODIs against India at a strike rate of 85.50.

On the other hand, the all-rounder Rana had also a memorable Test debut in Bristol, scoring unbeaten 80 off 154 deliveries as well as finished with 4 for 131 against England. In the two ODIs, she managed 2 wickets but her 24 runs helped India to win the final ODI.
