Veteran India women pacer Jhulan Goswami backed the current Indian pace unit, saying that they are all quality bowlers and it is just about sticking with them and showing patience.
England Women’s team defeated India Women’s team by 8 wickets to take 1-0 in the three-ODI series. Despite putting a low total of 201 on the board, many fans expected the Indian women's team to fight back and backed the bowlers to make things hard for the England batters.
However, bowlers failed to make an impact as Heather Knight-led England women's side smashed the pacers all around the park and chased the target with 91 balls to spare.
Addressing the press conference ahead of the second ODI, veteran Indian women pacer Jhulan Goswami said all the pacers in the India team are quality bowlers and backed them saying that they need a little bit of time and surely they’ll do well.
“Both of our medium pacers like Shikha Pandey, Pooja Vastrakar, and we have another two pacers in the side, all of them are good cricketers. Shikha is coming back from a break, she was not there in our last series. Pooja is playing after a long time, they need a little bit of time, they will do well," Jhulan Goswami said during the virtual press conference.
Goswami said that pacers have proved that they are quality bowlers by single-handedly winning matches for India and they will come back strongly.
"They have already proved that they are quality bowlers, they have single-handedly won the matches for India. You just need to give them a little bit of time, they will come back strongly. I have full confidence in them," she said.
Goswami admitted that they as a bowling group need to come back strongly and have discussed a lot of things which they hope will sort in the coming matches.
"Honestly speaking, we need to come back as a bowling group strongly. Whatever score is there on the board, we need to come back as a unit. As an individual, you cannot achieve big milestones. You have to come out together as a bowling unit. We have discussed a lot of things, hopefully, we sort it out and we come back strongly,” she said.
Jhulan Goswami further said that people have to believe in bowlers as they can turn things around. "You have to believe in these bowlers, they are your best bowlers, they have the ability. They have done well in the past, they are coming back after a long haul, we will come back strongly as a bowling unit," she concluded.
Both teams will now face off in the second ODI on Wednesday (30th June) at Taunton.
