BCCI announces annual contracts for Indian women's team; Harmanpreet, Smriti feature in A category

A total of 19 players have been handed annual contracts by the BCCI.

Indian women's cricket team | GettyThe Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday (May 19) announced the central contracts for the senior women’s team for 2020-21.

A total of 19 players have been handed annual contracts by the BCCI for the period between October 2020 and September 2021.

The annual contracts have been classified into three categories, with the players in Grade A earning Rs 50 lakh, Grade B acquiring Rs 30 lakh and Grade C getting Rs 10 lakh.

Only three players namely Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana and Poonam Yadav featured in the Grade A category.

Shafali Verma, who became a household name after her exploits in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup last year, has been promoted to Grade B from C. Punam Raut and Rajeshwari Gayakwad have also been promoted to Grade B.

Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, Shikha Pandey, Taniya Bhatia, and Jemimah Rodrigues are the other players who have been given Grade B contracts.

Mansi Joshi, Arundhati Reddy, Pooja Vastrakar, Harleen Deol, Priya Punia, and Richa Ghosh have earned Grade C contracts.

India women’s team will travel to UK for their next assignment. They will play a four-day Test match, three ODIs and three T20Is against England from June 16 to July 15.
