BCCI on Thursday (13 May) confirmed the appointment of former India cricketer Ramesh Powar as the head coach of the Indian Women’s cricket team and replaced former head coach WV Raman.
Raman took to Twitter and congratulated Powar on being named as coach. He mentioned that he hoped the girls soared under his guidance.

In December 2018, WV Raman was appointed the head coach of the India women's team, Raman had taken over from Powar as the coach. Under his tenure, India managed to reach the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2020.
On April 13, the BCCI had invited application for the position of head coach of the India women's team for a period of two years.
The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Mr. Madan Lal, and Mr. Rudra Pratap Singh interviewed the applicants and unanimously agreed on Mr. Powar’s candidature, BCCI said in a statement.
Powar has represented India in 31 ODIs and 2 Tests after his cricket career took up cricket coaching and is an ECB Level 2 certified coach, and has also attended BCCI-NCA Level 2 coaching course.
The 42-year-old’s first assignment back as the head coach would be in June-July this year as the women's team heads to the UK to play one Test, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
