INDW v SAW 2021: Harmanpreet Kaur becomes 5th Indian woman to play 100 ODIs

Harmanpreet joined Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Anjum Chopra and Amita Sharma in 100-ODI club.

Indian Women’s ODI vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur became the fifth Indian woman to play 100 ODIs when she was named in the playing XI for the first match against South Africa Women at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The Indian Women were put in to bat after losing the toss and were aided by stalwarts Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur with scores of 50 and 40 respectively. The Women in Blue posted 177/9 in their 50 overs in what was their first ODI game after 15 months.

Kaur joined Mithali (210 matches), Jhulan Goswami (183), Anjum Chopra (127), and Amita Sharma (116), who got to the 100-ODI mark for India before her. In overall women’s cricket, 43 players have reached the landmark before the Indian T20I captain.

The official Twitter handle of the BCCI Women congratulated the 31-year-old for the amazing feat.

After 99 games, Harmanpreet Kaur had scored 2372 ODI runs at an average of 34.88 including 3 hundreds and 11 fifties. She had also picked 23 wickets at a strike rate of 55.9.

The South African Women will be playing 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is until March 23. The entire 8-match series will be played at the same venue hosting the first ODI.
