The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association on Tuesday (February 23) confirmed that Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium will host the upcoming limited-overs series between India and South Africa Women.
It will mark the return of the Indian women’s cricket to international cricket after almost 12 months, having last played competitive cricket in Australia in the Women’s T20 World Cup in March 2020.
The planned eight-match white-ball series between India and South Africa women’s cricket team comprising five ODIs and three T20Is will be played from March 7 to 24 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
UPCA secretary Yudhvir Singh told PTI: “We got the go-ahead from the BCCI yesterday. It is a big series considering our team last played 12 months ago. We are looking forward to hosting it.”
The five-match ODI series will be played on March 7, 9, 12, 14, and 17 – all matches will be day games followed by the three-match T20I series scheduled on March 20, 21, and 24 with the first two T20Is to be played under lights at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow.
While India has reportedly picked a 22-member squad for the home series against South Africa but hasn’t yet announced, the teams will get less than a week to train before the white-ball series as both teams will be arriving in Lucknow on February 25 and will undergo a six-day quarantine.
Noteworthy, the India-South Africa women series was earlier supposed to be held at the Greenfield Sports Hub Stadium in Thiruvanthapuram, but it was already booked for an Army recruitment drive on the same dates and eventually, UPCA will be hosting the home series.
