German Women captain Anuradha Doddaballapur created a world record by becoming the first woman cricketer to take 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls against Austria in the Women's T20I on Friday (August 14).

Earlier this week, Women’s International cricket returned for the first time since the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 final between Australia and India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, seven months ago with a five-match T20I series between the hosts Austria and Germany.

The right-arm pacer Anuradha registered the incredible figure of 5/1 on Friday to become the first Women’s T20I cricketer to have taken four wickets from four consecutive deliveries, as well as, to help Germany beat Austria by 137 runs in the fourth T20I of their Austrian tour.

Germany skipper Doddaballapur is now the only female cricketer to achieve the milestone, while in men’s cricket, only Lasith Malinga and Rashid Khan managed the feat.

Anuradha made Jo-Antoinette Stiglitz (1), Tugce Kazanci (0), Anisha Nookala (0), and Priya Sabu (0) her victims in the 15th over of the game to script history.

However, the 33-year-old, who had earlier represented the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), wasn’t finished there and went on to dismiss Harjot Dhaliwal to complete her five-wicket haul to finish with remarkable figures of 5/1 to record a memorable win for her team.

Noteworthy, Germany posted 198/0 thanks to Christina Gough’s brilliant knock of 70-ball 101* while Austria could only manage 61/9 to suffer a massive 137-run defeat against Doddaballapur’s team, leading the five-match series 4-0.
