Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that three members of the South African women's team have tested COVID-19 positive ahead of being assembled for a training camp before the proposed tour of England. 

A total of 34 tests were conducted on the players and support staff this Friday (July 24), with the infected trio, who weren't named, removed from the first of the preparatory camps, starting Monday (July 27) in Pretoria.

"We can confirm that three people have tested positive," said the board in a media release on its website. "The players and support staff that have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of 10 days and will take no part in the training camp."

"They have nil to mild symptoms as our medical team continue to closely monitor them in accordance with CSA’s COVID-19 Steering Committee protocols to ensure their well-being. The players’ return to train and play program will be guided by the CSA Medical Committee’s protocols."

In anticipation of getting government permission to travel to England for a series of ODIs and T20Is in September, CSA has planned two separate training camps for the women's team over the next month.

The lockdown that was imposed strictly to tackle the pandemic, was relaxed to an extent to allow sportspersons to resume training. No on-field action has been seen, however, apart from the exhibition '3TCricket' match that was played last weekend. 

Coming back to the women's team, around 24 players were assembled for training camp, their first since the T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this year. 

The yet unconfirmed tour of England is being considered integral to Proteas women's planning for the next year's ODI World Cup in New Zealand.
