Mithali Raj’s contributions to women’s cricket are unmatched, don’t compare me with her: Harmanpreet Kaur

Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet KaurMithali Raj is the face of Indian women’s cricket given her contribution to the sport for the past 20 years. Mithali started out in 1999 and has been a constant presence in the world of women’s cricket, taking India to two World Cup finals.

Currently, she is preparing to lead India in another World Cup, scheduled in 2021, and received heaps of praises from her deputy Harmanpreet Kaur, who lauded what she had done for cricket and also talked about the controversy between the two.

The semi-final of the 2018 Women’s World T20 saw Mithali Raj being dropped from the playing XI against England, which led to reports of a rift between her and captain Harmanpreet.

Harmanpreet Kaur feels WBBL experience brought decisive changes in mindset; bats for WIPL

"There were such people, it's not the right platform to take the names. Because they are the biggies, some very big cricketers. When a team reaches certain stature, such things happen. Mithali Di is a lot senior to me. I haven’t played half the amount of cricket she has played. She has been playing cricket for 20 years, there’s no comparison between her and me," Harmanpreet told Harsha Bhogle in a conversation with Cricbuzz.

"I do not want to compare myself to her as I know that what she has given to women’s cricket, I would not have been able to contribute that even if I started playing cricket when she did. She has been contributing from a time when there was nothing for India's women’s cricket. I started performing when I had a ready platform. Both of us never let any incident affect the team’s bonding,” Harmanpreet added.
