The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday (April 26) congratulated Pakistan's pathbreaking women's team cricketer Sana Mir as she bid adieu to the game after an inspiring 15-year-long career at the highest level. 

The 34-year-old captained Pakistan for eight years from 2009 to 2017, including during two ODI World Cups (2013 and 2017) and five T20 World Cups (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016), apart from various bilateral international assignments.

As an all-round player, Sana retired being one of the nine women's cricketers in the history of the game to have taken 100 wickets and scored 1000 runs in ODIs, bagging 151 wickets and scoring 1,630 runs in 120 matches. 

In T20Is, she picked up 89 wickets and 802 runs across 106 matches in the format after making her debut against Ireland in May 2009. 

"Sana has been the face of Pakistan cricket over the years and one of the most consistent performers around the world. She has been a wonderful leader of the Pakistan team and a great ambassador of the game in her country and abroad," said ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney in a fitting tribute on governing body's website. 

"This is an important period for the women’s game and I hope Sana will be able to use her vast experience and contribute to its growth in whatever way she can. On behalf of everyone at the ICC, I wish her all the very best for her future."

Sana thanked the ICC and all her well-wishers for their support, expressing gratitude towards the game. 

"It has been an absolute pleasure being part of the cricket fraternity. Constant support and encouragement from ICC has helped us follow our passion and dream bigger. I thank CEO Manu and everyone at ICC for their incredible support throughout," she wrote over Twitter.
