Mithali Raj, Poonam Yadav make generous donation to COVID-19 relief funds

The world is struggling to adapt to the increasing threat of COVID-19 pandemic.

India is currently under 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of COVID-19 | GettyIndian women cricket stars Mithali Raj and Poonam Yadav have contributed Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively for the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mithali, the current ODI skipper, donated Rs 5 lakh to the PM Cares Fund and the same amount to Telangana Chief Minister's Fund.

Taking to Twitter, Mithali wrote: “All of us need to join hands in this fight against the deadly coronavirus. I pledge to contribute my little bit -    Rs. 5 lakh to The PM - CARES Fund and Rs 5 lakh to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.”

On the other hand, Poonam pledged 1 lakh each to the central and state government funds for the noble cause.

"I have given my support to the PM-Cares fund and the UP CM relief fund. This is the only thing we can do in this time of crisis. I hope everyone contributes and we beat the pandemic soon. Stay safe everyone," she tweeted.

Among the Indian men cricketers, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, Sourav Ganguly, Pathan brothers (Irfan and Yusuf), among others have come forward to help the needy in this time of crisis.

As of March 31, the overall number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 1300-mark with over 35 deaths reported in the country due to the deadly virus.

Globally, the outbreak has claimed more than 37,000 lives and infected over 785,000 people thus far.
