India Women's team head coach WV Raman on Friday (March 20) explained how the Women in Blue dominated the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 before losing the title to hosts Australia Women earlier this month in Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Indians even were unbeaten in the recent showpiece event in Australia despite being the youngest side in the tournament until the T20 World cup 2020 final where the girls were beaten by the hosts to clinch record fifth title on International Women’s Day at the MCG.

Well, India Women have improved a lot over the years and their brave and fearless performance at the big stage has proved the same. However, Indian eves couldn’t bring the T20 World Cup 2020 to home, but they made the entire nation proud.
In the latest interview with Times of India, Raman explained how the team dominated the tournament while revealing he is working on making a team who can dominate the world cricket.
Raman said: “I'm trying to create a team which will play together for 6-8 years and dominates world cricket. That’s what sets the Australian team apart. As a team, they have played quite a few finals together and that’s the reason why they dominated the World Cup.”
There were many cricket experts and even players demanding the Women’s IPL to find out the talent like men’s IPL but the 54-year-old doesn’t believe it is the right time to bring the event.
The former Indian cricketer further explained, “If we are talking of a tournament on the same scale as the men's, which means eight teams in the fray, I think we need time to give the concept shape. We have to take it slow and steady. We are looking for exposure tours for the U-19, U-23 and India 'A' teams only now. With the U-19 World Cup scheduled next year, we will have a lot more talent coming in. So, in 3-4 years it will be ideal to start a full-fledged IPL for women.”
On teen batting sensation Shafali Verma, the coach said: “She is still a child. People may have good intentions when they say a lot of things in her interest, but that is all futile. For now, we must let her be. What is also important for her at this juncture is that she needs to be guided properly by her family.”
Raman signed off by saying, “On the field, I think it is best if she is left alone. She'll work things out as she goes along. She does work on her cricket and she is very intelligent as well.”
