Shafali Verma, Indian women team's latest batting sensation, just recently broke the great Sachin Tendulkar's record when she became the second-youngest cricketer to play for the country at the age of just 15.

Shafali played a magnificent knock of 46 in 33 balls in the fourth T20I of the just concluded series against South Africa in Surat.

"I am very happy about becoming the youngest (cricketer) ever," Shafali told Republic TV. "But I am not losing my sleep thinking over it. It's just the start. I want to play in all formats of the game, though Twenty20 remains my favourite."

"I just want to concentrate on my game and not pay much attention to records. I want to bat like Sachin Tendulkar and keep wickets like MS Dhoni," she added.

Shafali has been drafted so quickly in the national side because of her reputation as a child prodigy at the domestic level. She scored over 1,200 runs with eight centuries last season.

"She is simply unbelievable considering her age and gender," says batting coach Santh Kumar, who first spotted Shafali at the age of 12 in 2016 during an academy session at the Sri Ram Narain Cricket Club.

"Her powerful lofted shots and on-drives are her trademark shots. We hope she emulates her idol Sachin in cricketing achievements and break many records."

Shafali's fielding and wicket-keeping coach Sanjay Badhwar also reserves special praise for her. "Apart from her enormous batting ability, she is very good behind the stumps as well," he said. "People are comparing her with Sachin's initial days but I would say her game is more like MS Dhoni."

"She has quick reflexes and is quite good at catching and uprooting the stumps. She also has a very solid and matured cricketing mind like Dhoni."
