Megan Schutt made her way into the record books, as the Australian fast-bowler became the first woman to claim two hat-tricks in women's white-ball cricket on Wednesday, September 11.

Schutt achieved the milestone during the third and final One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies Women after she cleaned up the hosts’ tail to help Australia Women to clean sweep the ODI series 3-0 in Antigua on Wednesday.

With her figures of 3 for 24 in Antigua ODI, the right-arm medium-pacer became the first Australian woman to claim a hat-trick in ODIs, dismissing the trio of Chinelle Henry, Karishma Ramharack and Afy Fletcher in the final three deliveries of the West Indies’ innings to bundle out the host for 180.

Megan had claimed her first hat-trick in a T20I against India last year when she had removed Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

In reply, Australia easily chased down the total at the expense of just wickets thanks to half-century each by opener Alyssa Healy (61) and captain Meg Lanning (58) to complete a clean sweep in West Indies.

Schutt told cricket.com.au, “It was good to actually take it all in the one over. It's kind of luck of the draw, it was the last over of the innings so you're either getting hit for six or getting wickets.”

The 26-year-old signed off, “I just hoped for the best really, I know my back-of-the-hand slower ball is effective on wickets that turn a bit so I just looked to take as much pace off as I could.”

Noteworthy, Meg Lanning also achieved a milestone in the Antigua match, as she became Australia’s leading women’s runscorer with her fifty on Wednesday.

Now, Australia and West Indies Women will lock horn in the three-match T20 International series which will get underway with the first T20I on September 15 at the Kensington Oval.
