The Indian women’s team stands on the brink of a historic victory over England in the one-off Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground after Yastika Bhatia smashed a stunning 113 off 158 balls, cementing her place on the prestigious honours board as the first-ever woman to score a Test century at the iconic venue.
Coming back from a major knee injury, the wicketkeeper-batter hit 14 boundaries in her maiden Test hundred. It is also the highest individual score by an Indian woman in the third or fourth innings of a Test.
After Yastika’s dismissal, Richa Ghosh slammed an aggressive unbeaten half-century (50* off 52 balls) as India declared their second innings at 341/7 at the stroke of tea on Day 3, setting England an improbable target of 457.
Earlier, opener Smriti Mandhana set up the massive lead by following her first-innings 83 with a composed 70 runs in the second essay.
Young pacer Kranti Gaud, who grabbed a sensational 5/37 in the first innings, struck early blows in the second innings as well. Sayali Satghare and Sneh Rana also bagged a couple of scalps each as India reduced England to 130/6 at the close of play, needing four more wickets on the final day to secure a monumental win.
Cricket fraternity was all praises for Yastika Bhatia, whose ton has put India in a commanding position in the one-off Test at the Home of Cricket.
