Newbie Indian women’s cricketer Vaishnavi Sharma has spilled the beans about the viral new celebration with India captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the recent fifth and final T20I against Sri Lanka on December 30.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s 68 and Arundhati Reddy’s 27 led India to 175/7 in the fifth and final T20I in 20 overs. In response, Hasini Perera made 65 and Imesha Dulani made 50, but Sri Lanka could only muster 160/7 in 20 overs, and the Indian women won the match by 15 runs. They also won the five-T20I series 5-0.
Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma and India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur were spotted breaking into a choreographed celebration in the fourth T20I after she took a wicket. They clapped each other's hands, exchanged fist pumps, made a flying gesture with their arms, and hugged warmly.

Vaishnavi Sharma revealed the story behind her special wicket celebration with Harmanpreet Kaur. In the third T20I, Vaishnavi requested Harmanpreet if she could run up to her in a specific manner after taking a wicket, and the captain easily consented.
However, Vaishnavi did not take a wicket in that game; thus, the opportunity to celebrate came in the fourth T20I.
“Before going onto the field, we were all standing outside in a huddle and thought we should do something fun. We decided that when we take a wicket, we’ll try a new kind of celebration. During that discussion, I told Harry di that when I get a wicket, I’ll celebrate like this. She agreed and said, ‘Yes, let’s do it,’ Vaishnavi said in a video on BCCI Women X.
“We had planned it for the third match, but I didn’t get any wickets, so it didn’t happen. Then, in the fourth match, when I finally picked up wickets, the celebration was completed,” Vaishnavi added.
Vaishnavi had a fantastic series, ending as the joint leading wicket-taker with Deepti Sharma, Shree Charani, and Kavisha Dilhari. The left-arm spinner took five wickets in five matches with an economy rate of 6.26, with her best figures of 2 for 24 in four overs coming in the fourth T20I.
