India’s young women’s spinner Vaishnavi Sharma was seen getting embarrassed after yelling out an expletive during the recent fourth T20I against Sri Lanka women in Thiruvananthapuram on December 28.
Vaishnavi Sharma made her India debut in the ongoing T20I series and is part of the transitioning process the women’s team is going through in the shortest format of the game.
Already leading the five-match series 3-0, India entered the fourth game with confidence, and it showed as they were asked to bat first by the Sri Lanka captain, who won the toss.
Smriti Mandhana’s 80 and Shafali Verma’s 79 and their 162-run opening partnership led India to 221/2 in 20 overs, their highest T20I score. Richa Ghosh also provided the impetus with a 16-ball 40*. In response, despite a half-century by Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka only managed 191/6 and lost the game by 30 runs.
During the Lankan innings, when wickets were hard to come by and Indian bowlers were failing to limit the chase, Vaishanavi Sharma had a golden opportunity to run out Harshita Samarawickrama, but her throw was too far away, and the batter crossed the line before Ghosh could reach the stumps.
The cameras shifted their focus to the young cricketer's face, and she was filmed losing her temper out of rage. However, she quickly realized it had been captured on video and covered her lips in embarrassment.
