Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (August 18) confirmed that security threat to the national side touring West Indies is a “hoax”, Indian High Commission in Coolidge has intimated the Antigua government about the developments.

Amid India’s three-day practice match with West Indies ‘A’ in Coolidge, there were reports surfaced on Sunday, claiming that the BCCI received a mail about potential security threat to the Virat Kohli-led side.

“We have informed the security agencies and it has been found out that it was a hoax email,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Sunday evening.

However, the BCCI is taking all necessary measures to make sure that the security of the team is not compromised.

“We informed the High Commission in Antigua and they have in turn informed the local government over there. The security is being monitored and if need be will be beefed up adequately. As of now, they are still getting the same level of security,” the official said.

Team India are having a great time in the ongoing Caribbean tour. After whitewashing the hosts 3-0 in the shortest format, the Men in Blue clinched the three-match ODI series by a margin of 2-0.

Both the teams will now start their World Test Championship campaign with a two-match Test series, starting August 22 in Antigua.
