After its board meeting on June 10, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to continue exploring different contingency plans for the future of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, slated to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) chairman Earl Eddings has acknowledged that this year's T20 World Cup amid the COVID-19 pandemic seems "unrealistic" as it will be difficult to fly in 16 teams to the country.

Australia might be among the least affected nations by the deadly outbreak but the fate of the marquee event is shrouded in uncertainty as several countries continue to have strict travel restrictions in place.

"I would say it is unlikely...trying to get (teams from) 16 countries into Australia when most countries are still going through COVID spiking is unrealistic or very, very difficult," Eddings said during a video conference on Tuesday (June 16).

There is speculation that the BCCI is eyeing October-November window for IPL 2020 if the T20 World Cup gets postponed.

The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League currently remains suspended “until further notice” owing to the Coronavirus epidemic.
