Veteran all-rounder and former captain Jhulan Goswami was highly impressed with the way India Women played fearlessly in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 so far, saying they just need to play that fearless brand of cricket in the summit clash to win the trophy in Australia.
India has now made it to their first-ever T20 World Cup final by virtue of finishing at the top of the points table in Group A with eight points after first semi-final against England Women washed out in Sydney on Thursday (March 5) and Goswami said this is “part of the game” but it is a great news that Women in Blue set their dates for the title clash on March 8 in Melbourne.
Harmanpreet Kaur-led side has dominated the T20 World Cup 2020 as they didn’t look back after defeating defending champions and hosts Australia in the opening game, winning all games in a row against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka to finish the group at the top.
However, semi-final clash against Heather Knight’s England would have been a difficult challenge for India as they never beat them in the ICC event but they are now in the final and the veteran is confident that the Indian girls have the potential to clinch their maiden T20 World Cup trophy.
Jhulan told IANS on Thursday, “It is great news. They have dominated the World Cup. They topped the group and made it to the semis. The semi-final was washed out but this is part of the game.”
She admitted that there would pressure in the final clash and it would be a real task for the Indian eves to avoid themselves from getting bogged down by the pressure of the big stage, suggesting them to keep playing fearless cricket and hopes they will return the country with the trophy.
The 35-year-old further added, “Pressure will be there. World Cup final is the biggest stage. Handling the pressure is the key. They have played fearless cricket so far and I am hopeful they will continue playing good cricket and will win the World Cup.”
She signed off by saying, “Reaching the final and in this fashion is a big achievement. They should continue playing the fearless cricket they have been playing. The final will be in Melbourne and it will be a spectacle. I am hoping it will be a full house. This will be a great advertisement for women’s cricket all over the world. Indian cricket will grow also.”
