Women's T20WC 2020: Shafali Verma thanks her dad and all boys she has practiced with after Player of Match performance

Young batting sensation Shafali Verma continued her run-scoring spree as she has produced yet another match-winning knock for India Women against New Zealand Women to continue their dominance in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 Cricket World Cup 2020.

She played another brilliant knock of 34-ball 46 to help Women in Blue register a hat-trick of wins in the tournament, as India became the first team to get a ticket to Women's T20 Cricket World Cup 2020 semi-finals after thrashing the White Ferns by 4 runs in Melbourne on Thursday (February 27).

For her match-winning innings in Melbourne, the 16-year-old Shafali was adjudged Player of the Match for the second consecutive time in the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup 2020 in Australia.

Following another crucial contribution in India eve’s success in the showpiece event, the right-hander, who known for her power-hitting, thanked her father for keeping faith in her while revealing that the loose balls are her strength and she made the most of it against the White Ferns.

Shafali told in a post-match interview, “I was happy with the performance and wanted to give a good start at the powerplay. I waited for the loose balls which are my strength and it paid off today.”

She signed off by saying, “I practiced a lot with the boys and I want to thank my dad and all the boys at the practice who helped me train well in batting.”

Noteworthy, the young batter has scored 114 runs in the ongoing ICC event in her three innings so far at a strike-rate of 172.7 which is the best in the tournament.

Overall, Shafali’s strike-rate reads 147.97 – the highest strike-rate in the Women’s T20I cricket (minimum 200 runs scored) followed by South Africa’s Chloe Tyron and Australia’s Alyssa Healy.

India Women will next play Sri Lanka Women in the tournament on February 29 in Melbourne.
