Papua New Guinea on Saturday (October 19) clinched a ten-wicket victory over Bermuda in the Group A encounter of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, PNG bowlers Nosaina Pokana (2/18) and Norman Vanua (3/14) ran through the Bermudian batting line-up and bundled out their opponent for just 89 in 17.2 overs, with only Delray Rawlins (25) going past the 20-run mark. Norman Vanua picked a hat-trick removing Bermuda captain Dion Stovell, Kamau Leverock and Deunte Darrell.
PNG continued its domination in the game as Tony Ura (33*) and captain Assad Vala (53*) helped their team race its way past the extremely modest target in only 10.2 overs, further providing a major boost to the net run-rate.
Bermuda bowlers suffered the same fate that the team's batsmen did. They were hammered left, right and center by the more experienced outfit.
While PNG sent down a strong message across to the rest of the teams part of the global qualifier in UAE, Bermuda had a major dent to its confidence for the rest of the event.
Only six teams from the 14-team tournament will qualify for the next year's T20 World Cup in Australia.
